St. Luke's Marriage Policy

The Covenant of Marriage:

At St. Luke's we believe that marriage is a gift of God through which two people covenant with one another and with God. We affirm that in Christian marriage two people give themselves to each other in the full intention of a lifelong commitment.

We affirm that this unity is a creation of God and is greater than the two individuals. It is entirely appropriate that the ritual act of entering the covenant of marriage should take place in a public gathering in the name of God, as an act of Christian worship. The setting for your marriage may be the church sanctuary or another location of your choice.

Here at St. Luke’s the Covenant of Marriage is open to all people committed to the life of faith regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender or cultural background.

There will be a requirement to participate in marriage preparation. Our Minister will design these sessions.  The Worship Ministry will approve or deny marriage requests.

While the information below provides the practical information that you need in planning your marriage, we do not want you to feel that these are either the only, or the most important aspects of marriage. Please feel free to contact the office directly with further inquiries.

The Ceremony:

If you desire another Minister to assist or officiate at your wedding, permission must be granted before the invitation to the other Minister is extended.

Music is an integral part of the wedding service so it is necessary for you to meet with our organist to discuss the details of your service and select the music at least one month prior to the wedding. Special musical requests (both material and use of soloists and musicians) must be approved by the Minister and Director of Music.

The date of the wedding should be at least 3 months after you have contacted our office unless otherwise agreed upon. Please note a rehearsal is required. There is a maximum of two weddings on any given date with at least two hours between services.  No wedding can be held after 5 pm. on Saturdays as the church is being used for worship

Pictures may be taken in the church only as you enter and leave the sanctuary and during signing of the register. A video camera taping the service should be in one fixed position. No confetti or rice is permitted on church property. Please clarify if you would like the Minister to attend your reception.

If you would like to hold your reception in our Church Hall, please contact our Facilitator of the Administration Ministry through our church office to negotiate the fee. Due to insurance concerns there is a strict policy of no alcohol being consumed on church property.

If we at St. Luke’s can assist you in any way at this meaningful time in your life, please do not hesitate to contact us.

This marriage policy will be reviewed at least once every two years.
